摘要: Mining activities often lead to the release of harmful heavy metals such as chromium (Cr), which significantly impacts plant and ecosystem health. This study focused on the response of Campylopus schmidii (M & uuml;ll. Hal.) A. Jaegr. (C. schmidii), a moss species native to a pyrite mine in southwestern China, to Cr stress. The morphological, biochemical, and molecular changes under Cr exposure were investigated to provide insights into the mechanisms that enable mosses to survive in metal-contaminated environments. Results showed that Cr exposure led to increased Cr accumulation in moss tissues, with higher concentrations resulting in physiological impairments such as chlorosis and oxidative stress. At the molecular level, significant changes were observed in genes related to antioxidant defenses, photosynthesis, and energy metabolism. Specifically, genes associated with the lightharvesting complex and photosystem components were downregulated under Cr stress, indicating a disruption in photosynthetic activity. Additionally, antioxidant enzyme activities increased initially but was later inhibited under high Cr concentrations, highlighting the challenges of prolonged metal stress. This study demonstrates the resilience of C. schmidii to Cr contamination and suggests its potential for ecological restoration in mining areas affected by heavy metal pollution.
